Crystal Morey Porcelaine Sculptor

Crystal Morey Porcelaine Sculptor / California, USA

“Pulling from traditions of realism, craftsmanship, and art historical porcelain, I am looking to incorporate these customs of beauty, while also building a contemporary, science based, environmental narrative of today. A story that reminds us of the importance of our natural spaces, and that all living creatures are connected through a thread of time and a fragile world. ” Crystal Morey

Fascinating sculptures, hybrid human/animal, so poetic !

“Mes recherches se concentrent sur les processus d’hybridation, la mise à nu et la décortication de l’anatomie humaine et animale.
Les chimères sont récurrentes, mais aussi la figure féminine dont le corps devient terrain d’expérimentations anatomiques.
Partant d’une mythologie personnelle, j’essaie, par ces personnages déstructurés ou réagencés, de retracer ces impressions qui sont à l’origine de la nécessité de mon travail.”

“I was born between butcher knives and viscera of beef in August 1957 in the Bugey (Rhône-Alpes). Back in the world of work from 18 years and along with my role as a mother, I have always painted.
It is since 2006 that I exclusively dedicated to my work as an artist.
I arrived in Lyon in 2008 was crucial, because for the first time I had a workshop at my disposal. My way of working has changed dramatically, I went from watercolor to acrylic and paper on canvas. This creates a total break transition into my work today, which is claimed and enforced like never before.
Besides painting, my practice has since expanded in the areas of drawing and sculpture on paper.”

Hybrid involving steel, quartz, copper, iron, slate, resin and of course, 30 micron layers of 3D printed Objet VeroClear material.

A hybrid of traditional sculptural techniques and state-of-the-art digital modeling and 3D printing, she has been built with the aim of inspiring other traditional artists to adapt and embrace new technology in their work, rather than to fear it; to create objects of beauty and awe that until now were impossible to build in the real world, and to continue to learn and develop, remaining as fluid as the constantly changing world in which we live.

Poetic scary world with Paul Toupet

Poetic scary world with Paul Toupet… (France) – born 1979

Paul Toupet – sculptures

Paul Toupet is a designer who was born in 1979 in Paris. Trained at the famous Penninghen art school and at the Workshop of Fine-Arts of Glacière in Paris, Paul Toupet has worked on the theme of human representation since 1996.Since May 1999, he displays his very particular and resolutely modern “Wax Puppets”: nucleated eyes, mouths vomiting braids, dressed in torn tissue or feathers, at a human or a child scale…
His art sometimes evokes childhood, sometimes mummies, the charred bodies of Pompeii, it revisits African art or religious art. The work of Paul Toupet is the fruit of multiple influences which are mixed and embezzle to create a poetic or provocating , a peaceful or scary world, according to the spectator’s gaze.
He is inspired by this artificial creature which have many anatomics possibilities. His work aims at transcribing a pure act of creation by the means of the unconscious which is expressed by the body. The Dolls of Paul Toupet seem to be out of time. This hybrid being would be involved in the formation of an intangible universe. Inanimate, almost eternal, it belongs to the uncanny but it is not devoid of a certain humor, even of a touch of burlesque. Dolls are spatial and temporal representations of the mores and folklore of a society. They materialise a certain conception of desire and phantasm.
