Having been inspired to explore a career in nature photography by my father’s travels in Antarctica, I now pursue a passion for capturing and sharing the wonder of the natural world.
After graduating from the Queensland College of Art, I first worked in commercial photography, before taking up a position as photographer with the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service, where I worked for 8 years.
I moved on from that part of my career in 1994 and my work is now published widely in books, magazines and paper products. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph extensively across Australia and in Africa, Alaska, Patagonia and Antarctica and have introduced many people to the world’s great wildlife and landscape destinations first hand, through small group photography tours, predominantly to Africa and Antarctica and the Pacific.

Hiroya Minakuchi - Beluga bubbles

Beluga Blowing Bubbles by photographer Hiroya Minakuchi

Beluga Blowing Bubbles by photographer Hiroya Minakuchi .
A Beluga whale has become a sensation at an aquarium after learning how to blow halo-…shaped bubbles. The extraordinary sight was captured on camera by photographer Hiroya Minakuchi at the Shimane aquarium in Japan. He said: »This beluga started making bubble rings when she was seven. And a couple of years ago she developed her technique. Now she blows the water from her mouth to make a current, which is not visible for us underwater. She then blows air from her blow hole into the current and that makes a ring shape. »

WOW

Under water photographer : « I’m marine biologist specialising in invertebrate animals and underwater photographer with 8 years of experience. Currently, I am working as the head of the divers’ team at Moscow State University’s White sea biological station, organising and managing all sorts of underwater work. Me and my team are used to diving in unfavourable and often harsh conditions, successfully conducting complex research projects.

My own goal is to study underwater life through the lenses and to boost the interest to marine biology among the people, sharing all my finding in social media and in real life through public lectures, exhibitions and media events. I have a great chance to see beauty in the darkness underwater, and this led me to multiple collaborations with the National Geographic, Discovery Channel, the BBC, Nature, Smithsonian and many more as well as with scientific community.«
