Over the past thirty-five years I have travelled to remote areas of the planet, fascinated by cultures who live in community with nature \u2013 to engage with artists whose work is imbued with powerful connections to their ancestral lands. The awareness that art-making acts as a vehicle for understanding our place within a greater context, guides my own artistic pursuits.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Pour donner \u00e0 cette sculpture tout\u00a0son pouvoir, ou \u00ab\u00a0dynamique interne\u00a0\u00bb, je d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 qui fait \u00e9clater le vernis du cheval. Une fois durci, les pigments r\u00e9v\u00e8lent une myriade\u00a0craquel\u00e9e al\u00e9atoirement – un paysage en surface tout \u00e0 fait inattendue comme les couleurs absorb\u00e9es par la mati\u00e8re.

To give this sculpture its power, or \u201cinternal dynamic\u201d, \u00a0I developed a process that shatters the veneer\u00a0of the horse as it is cast. Once cured, pigments wiped across\u00a0the sculpture reveal\u00a0myriad random cracking and unseen textures \u2013 a wholly unexpected landscape surfaces as the colours are absorbed by the material. A unique artwork is uncovered, with no possibility for accuracy in reproduction or consistency in finish.<\/em><\/p>\n
